Yellow Dog Watershed Preserve hosts Benefit Concert
Seth Bernard and Daisy May Erlewine will be playing at A Clean Water Concert on December 19, 2008 at 7pm. This benefit concert will be held at the Messiah Lutheran Church (305 W. Magnetic St.) and donations will be accepted at the door. All proceeds will go to the Yellow Dog Watershed Preserve and their work to keep the Yellow Dog River clean and the ecosystem healthy. Seth and Daisy May play an eclectic array of music with acoustic sounds such as folk, country, and rock music. They are part of a group known as Earthwork Music, comprised of musicians with a deep respect for nature. January 19, 2009 at 6pm: The Yellow Dog Watershed Preserve will be hosting a Watershed Wildlife Workshop at the Peter White Public Library in the Community Room. A wildlife biologist will present information on species of concern in the Yellow Dog River and surrounding watersheds, such as moose, wolf, and cougar. This event is free but donations are accepted at the door. For more information, call 906-345-9223.
The Yellow Dog Watershed Preserve in Big Bay, MI was awarded a grant from the National Forest Foundation to assist the Forest Service in reaching baseline management standards for wilderness areas. All wilderness areas throughout the country must meet a minimum criteria to be considered managed to standard. So with this award, we will help the McCormick Wilderness Area meet the national criteria. We will do this through work associated with invasive plant species, air quality, and recreation site reviews. We are now moving forward with the McCormick Wilderness Stewardship Project and looking for individuals who would be interested in participating in a new group called Friends of the McCormick. This group will be an informal meeting of like-minded folks who would like to help protect the McCormick Wilderness Area. The group’s activities would range from volunteer days in the wilderness area to hanging posters to spread the word about this place. If you are interested, please put our first meeting on your calendar. We will meet at the Huron Earth Deli on 410 N 3rd St. in Marquette on June 4, 2009 at 6:30pm.
