DEQ Reverses Kennecott Preliminary Decision!!!
Congratulations to everyone who has put their time and effort into this issue.
It is a wonderful step in a positive direction.
Let's keep the momentum!
The MDEQ just released a statement explaining that new information on the structural integrity of the proposed Kennecott mine site on the Yellow Dog Plains has caused them to reverse their preliminary approval of the permit application. They also announced that the upcoming Public Hearings in both Marquette and Lansing have been cancelled.

With today's announcement that the DEQ has withdrawn its proposed decision on the Kennecott Mining application, should letter-writing campaigns from constituents to state leaders and state newspapers be continued? I was in the process of writing my letters when I read this announcement.
This is a wonderful step in a positive direction, but by no means is it an end. It is still very important to continue our efforts to educate and enlighten our elected and appointed officals on the risks associated with sulfide mining. Your voice needs to be heard by those who are in a position to make change.
